Chris Atkinson’s talk at Boston College

On November 3rd, Chris Atkinson is speaking in the geometry-topology seminar at Boston College. He will speak about:

Title: Small volume link orbifolds

Abstract: We will discuss recent joint work with Dave Futer in which we study hyperbolic 3-orbifolds having singular locus a link. We have identified the smallest volume hyperbolic 3-orbifold having base space the 3-sphere and singular locus a knot. We also identify the smallest volume hyperbolic 3-orbifold with base space any homology 3-sphere and singular locus a link. With weaker homology assumptions, we obtain a lower bound on the volume of any link orbifold.
